Spring 2023 Banwei: No one left behind

On Friday, February 24th, Hopkins-Nanjing Center students gathered on Zoom to elect their new Spring 2023 student representatives, a group of four students known as the banwei (班委). United by their desire to “leave no one behind” as the HNC transitions from a hybrid to an in-person environment, Fu Jiapei, Nancy Brancati, Alexander Nash, and Cheng Feiyu were selected to advocate for their fellow students. Alumnus discusses the impact of the HNC on his consulting career in China

William Stockton works in Shanghai, China as an Account Manager at Kantar, a data, insights and consulting company. He attended the Hopkins-Nanjing Center as a Master’s in International Studies student from 2019 to 2021 concentrating in International Economics. He wrote his master’s thesis on The US-China Trade War’s Impact on China’s New Energy Private Vehicle Market. HNC-in-Southeast Asia: HNC Students meet with scholars and professionals in Vietnam and Singapore

HNC students in Singapore The second - ever HNC-in-the-World trip—a Hopkins-Nanjing Center initiative to allow students to explore China’s global engagements—took place in Southeast Asia during the center’s Fall Break between November 19 th and 26 th , 2022. Co-Director Webb and Professor David Arase led 19 students, including myself, on an 8-day trip split between Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City to learn about China-ASEAN engagement with ASEAN-US relations and embed this triad of bilateral relations in the larger Sino-US geopolitical contest for influence in the Indo-Pacific region. Last semester, students had the chance to visit Peru in April 2022.
