A Unique Partnership in China

The Johns Hopkins University -- Nanjing University
Center for Chinese and American Studies

The Hopkins-Nanjing Center (HNC) was founded in 1986 as a multicultural, bilingual educational collaboration between the Johns Hopkins University and Nanjing University. Today, the Hopkins-Nanjing Center is part of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). The HNC’s unique target language curriculum trains graduates who contribute to Sino-global relations across a variety of fields. International students take most courses in Chinese taught by Chinese faculty, while Chinese students are taught primarily in English. Joint academic and social activities, and the pairing of international and Chinese roommates, create a close-knit community that extends beyond the classroom. At the heart of the Hopkins-Nanjing Center is its research library, considered one of China’s top collections on international affairs. 

Johns Hopkins SAIS gives its students a truly international perspective on today's global issues. A worldwide reach--with locations in Washington, DC, Bologna, Italy, and Nanjing, China--allows HNC students the opportunity to choose between two study options in Nanjing or to combine their studies in China with programs in other regions of the world. The Hopkins-Nanjing Center offers the following programs:

• Certificate in Chinese and American Studies
• Master of Arts in International Studies 
• Certificate in Chinese and American Studies + Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR)
• Certificate in Chinese and American Studies + Master of Arts in International Affairs (MAIA)
